The MetroHealth Simulation Center

MetroHealth EM Simulation Program from MetroHealth on Vimeo.

The MetroHealth Simulation Center is a non-profit consortium of emergency physicians, flight nurses, paramedics, and medical simulation experts that designs and moderates training exercises for health care professionals engaged in the medical support of law enforcement agencies.

We specialize in the use of high-fidelity medical simulators, live patient models, and the creation of structural and environmental elements of the tactical scene to craft realistic training scenarios. Training environments and scenarios can be tailored to individual departments. Live-action exercises with high-fidelity mannequins are the mainstay of training, but didactics and field labs are also available. Live-action scenarios moderated by faculty are followed by a debriefing session and may be taped.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
  • Airway management
  • Hemorrhage control
  • The sensory-deprived physical exam
  • Blast injury
  • Extraction techniques
  • Injury patterns of lethal and less-lethal weapons
  • Medical pre-planning
  • Team health and injury prevention

The Center has provided training for federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in Northern Ohio, including members from:

  • FBI
  • ATF
  • Cleveland Police Department
  • Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office
  • Lorain County Sheriff's Office
  • Western Enforcement Bureau
  • Southeast Enforcement Bureau
  • SEALE
  • U.S. Army (256th Combat Support Hospital)

Testimonials

"Expertly crafted tactical scenarios designed to improve the core competencies of tactical medical providers and operators, regardless of experience level. This is sims training at its best; good scripts combined with 21st century interactive mannequins, live actors and environmental special effects."
– Glenn A. Bollard, MD, FACEP Section Development Coordinator, American College of Emergency Physicians, EMS Section

"The center offers participants high-fidelity training scenarios that draw from the broad range of situations affecting today's TEMS community. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable.  The exercises enable students to apply and focus their medical skill set in a tactical environment. I was very satisfied with the entire training experience."
– David Stump, Tactical Medic, Western Enforcement Bureau, Bay Village, OH Fire Department

"I have attended TEMS training in multiple schools around the U.S. and I would have to say that the staff from MetroHealth provided some of the best 'real-world' scenarios that I have seen. The training was fast paced and the doctors provided great feedback. I look forward to attending another TEMS simulation session provided by this great group of health care professionals. This is training that will help anyone in the tactical community."
– Michael A. Kupec, Tactical Paramedic, Southwest Enforcement Bureau, North Royalton, OH Fire Department
