- About Us
We are involved in teaching medical students at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in the use of emergency ultrasound. The students learn ultrasound that correlates with their anatomy and physiology courses during M1 year. Students also have the opportunity to participate in an elective in emergency ultrasound in the ED.
We have a longitudinal curriculum focusing on teaching residents how to use emergency ultrasound at the beside. This starts with a 1 day course in the first month of intern year. Residents spend 1 month in their first year with a dedicated ultrasound block. Residents have ample opportunity to scan on shift throughout their training. Often 3rd year residents complete a 1 week elective in ultrasound.
We offer a 1 year fellowship in emergency ultrasound for those who want further training in ultrasound, want to manage an ultrasound program or want to pursue a career in academic medicine.
We provide continuing ultrasound education through our bi-monthly ultrasound lecture series. In this series we discuss topics in emergency ultrasound both at the basic and advanced levels. Additionally we incorporate speakers from other departments that utilize point-of-care ultrasound.
Our faculty are acclaimed leaders in Point-of-Care Ultrasound and continue to be involved in regional and national organization through leadership and educational roles. Involvement has included ACEP ultrasound section, Great Lakes Ultrasound Consortium and Ohio ACEP.
