Aims and Unique Fellowship Characteristics

  1. Earn a 12 credit graduate certificate in Health Informatics through Case Western Reserve University.
  2. Receive a faculty appointment at Case Western Reserve University.
  3. Become certified as an Epic Physician Builder.
  4. Lead one or more clinical informatics project(s) related to clinical information systems available within a Case Western Reserve University affiliated healthcare system.
  5. Experience clinical informatics within 3 diverse healthcare systems – The MetroHealth System, University Hospitals of Cleveland, and Cleveland Clinic.
  6. Participate as an attending physician in clinical care using the Epic EHR (up to 30% effort), to continue to develop and/or utilize clinical skills, as well as experience the use of the EHR in conjunction with clinical practice, within a Case Western Reserve University affiliated healthcare system.
  7. Begin working as an Associate Director of Clinical Informatics in your clinical area.
  8. Focus on “real world” clinical informatics.
  9. Benefit from 10 diverse core faculty (9 board certified and 1 board eligible in Clinical Informatics) and over 100 years of combined experience in clinical informatics.
  10. Work with a dedicated interdisciplinary team of over 40 clinical informatics professionals who have created and maintain an electronic health record for 25 years that is in the top 1% nationally in terms of features and functions (based on Healthcare Information Management System Society (HIMSS) criteria) and in the top 3% of usability by end users (based on the KLAS Arch Collaborative).

Our Clinical Informatics Fellowship Program strives to achieve the following goals:

  • To help produce the next generation of physician informatics leaders who will help guide and lead the implementation and use of clinical information systems to improve healthcare and health.
  • To offer an innovative clinical informatics training program focusing on applied clinical informatics.
  • To create an educational environment that fosters scholarly activity with an emphasis on applied clinical informatics.
  • To promote a nurturing and collaborative atmosphere that encourages fellow wellness, personal growth, and camaraderie.
  • To recruit and develop exemplary faculty and fellows who have a passion for learning, teaching, service, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • To use technology to promote the health and well-being of our community and help the MetroHealth System to continue to be a national leader in applied clinical informatics.
