Curriculum

The APP Fellowship will include clinical experiences in initial acute care management, acute rehabilitation, and outpatient management of individuals with substance use disorders. During the various clinical rotations, the fellow will have the opportunity to work adjunctively with attending physicians and APPs from varying backgrounds, including psychiatry, family medicine, internal medicine, and emergency medicine. Each Addiction Specialist will demonstrate a unique set of experiences and expertise in the management of individuals with substance use disorders.

Clinical experiences will be integrated across the training such that the fellow will be exposed to a range of individuals spanning the life space, including acute intoxication, withdrawal, and long-term rehabilitation.

  • Prepare the fellows for the independent practice of addiction medicine in a variety of settings.
  • Prepare the fellows to respond to patients and their families with empathy and concern.
  • Graduate fellow who can respond to the emotional, psychological, and emotional needs of their patients.
  • Educate the fellows in a variety of clinical settings including maternal clinics, inpatient services, consultation services, correctional medicine, and outpatient clinics serving a variety of clients.
  • Train fellows to successfully manage those with substance abuse disorder such that the patient improves their quality of life.
  • Advanced training and research in addiction medicine allow the fellows to continue their education post-training
