Our program has 4 unique training tracks with emphasis in integrated primary care and inter-professional education.

Child Clinical/Pediatric Tracks

Psychology residents in our child clinical/pediatric tracks gain experience assessing and treating a wide range of psychological problems including childhood mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD and oppositional defiant disorders, developmental issues, trauma and abuse, learning problems, family dysfunction, and health-related issues.

Training is provided in the pediatric psychology outpatient psychology clinic and the pediatric primary care and specialty care clinics at MetroHealth’s main campus. 

Adult Health Track

Psychology residents in our adult health track gain experience assessing and treating a wide range of psychological problems including mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, family dysfunction, substance use about abuse treatment (medically assisted treatment) and health-related issues.

Residents matched to the Adult Health Psychology General track will train at MetroHealth in the psychiatry outpatient clinic family medicine clinic, integrated primary care and specialty care clinics (Sleep Clinic, HIV Clinic, Weight Management, etc)  at Main Campus and our satellite locations.

Residents matched to the Adult Health Psychology/SUD (BHWET) will train at MetroHealth working in a Medically Assisted Treatment program for opioid and substance use disorder in integrated primary care and specialty care clinics (Sleep Clinic, HIV Clinic, Weight Management, etc.) at Main Campus and our satellite locations.

Residents matched to the Adult Serious Persistent Mental Illness track will train at MetroHealth’s Behavioral Health Hospital in Cleveland Heights, Ohio working with patients on inpatient psychiatric units for dual diagnosis unit, thought disorder, mood disorder. Residents will also work in outpatient settings providing groups and individual therapy for Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Programs. Residents will also have opportunities to select specialty care rotations at the county corrections facility, medically assisted treatment programs for opioid or substance use. 

This innovative, fast-paced residency program was developed to meet the training needs of psychology residents and to meet the mental health needs of the diverse and underserved patients in the community.
