Applications for AY25-26 will open on VSLO for Visiting Students on March 1, 2025.

Applications in VSLO must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the start of a rotation.

Applications for Students from International/Caribbean institutions (non-VSLO)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS for Elective and Acting Internship Participation

  • Medical students must be in their 4th/Final year.
  • Core Clinical Clerkships must be completed prior to participation.
  • Background check, drug screen and health requirements must meet the requirements set forth in the Trainee Background & Health Requirements.
  • AAMC Uniform Clinical Training Agreement between MetroHealth and the student’s home institution.
  • Malpractice and/or General Liability Insurance must be provided by the student or their home institution during their elective time. The limits of liability must be no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence/$3,000,000 annual aggregate.

*At this time, MetroHealth is unable to accommodate students from International/Caribbean institutions.

REVIEW THE ELECTIVE DETAILS CAREFULLY to ensure you are submitting application requirements and/or meet any prerequisites. Incomplete applications will not be submitted to the program for review.

UPON BEING EXTENDED AN OFFER, you have one (1) week from the date of notification to accept or decline the offer in VSLO. If no response is received by this deadline, the offer will expire in VSLO.  Please note, being accepted for an AI or elective does not guarantee a residency interview.
