FAQs for Visiting Residents/Fellows

Who is eligible?

All visiting trainees enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency or fellowship and have permission from their program director are eligible to rotate at The MetroHealth System.

How does the approval process work?

The MetroHealth GME Office receives hundreds of requests for visiting trainee rotations each year. To ensure requests do not conflict with other training in a department, requests for all visiting residents and fellows are managed in collaboration with the GME Department and individual programs.

Once the program approves the rotation, an application will be sent to the visiting resident via our residency management system, MedHub. Check your junk/spam as the email may have been delivered there.

What are the responsibilities of the visiting trainee?

During the rotation, the level of responsibility for each visitor will be determined by the supervising physician in conjunction with the program director approving the rotation.

Do I have to have an Ohio medical license?

Visiting trainees are required to provide a copy of either a permanent Ohio license or a copy of an Ohio training certificate issued by the State Medical Board of Ohio prior to beginning a rotation at MetroHealth. Trainees from outside of Ohio should apply as soon as possible and are responsible for all fees.

The application process takes approximately four to six weeks. You will NOT be able to function as a visiting resident or fellow if you cannot provide Ohio licensure information.  Residents/Fellows are not permitted to observe at MetroHealth.

Application to the Ohio state medical board can be submitted on the State Medical Board of Ohio website.

If I have any questions, who may I contact?

Visiting trainees may email [email protected] with questions at any time.
