Rheumatology Fellowship

The MetroHealth Medical Center Rheumatology Fellowship is a 2-year, ACGME-accredited training program affiliated with Case Western Reserve University. MetroHealth is a “safety net" hospital in Ohio with national reputation in public health research and service.

The program has 12 faculty members: (8 clinical, 2 emeriti, 1 PhD scientist, and 1 NP). We have 2 faculty who have been recognized as Masters of the American college of rheumatology, one pediatric rheumatologist and 2 musculoskeletal ultrasound specialists.

We have a strong basic science and clinical research programs with 2 sup-specialty centers; Lupus center and Spondyloarthritis center. Our faculty are highly committed to teaching and dedicated to the success of our trainees.

The curriculum includes hands-on bedside teaching, community-based learning, interdisciplinary conferences and close collaboration with dermatology, and a dedicated weekly half day of didactics.

A strength and focus of our fellowship is the commitment to research. The fellows complete a scholarly project that may be in translational, clinical, outcomes, or health informatics resulting in a manuscript and have an opportunity to apply for peer-reviewed research grants through local and national foundations.

The highlight of our program is a strong collegial environment and multidisciplinary education with combined case conferences with the departments of radiology and pathology, and an opportunity to work with faculty that are nationally and internationally recognized in their area of research and clinical expertise.
