- Welcome to Psychiatry
Dear Future Resident,
Welcome to the next step of your medical career! Our Psychiatry Residency Program provides an excellent clinical and academic training in a warm and collegial environment.
MetroHealth has a fully accredited General Psychiatry Residency Training program in Cuyahoga County’s safety net hospital. We also have a long-standing affiliation with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where all our medical staff hold faculty appointments.
The mission of The MetroHealth System (MHS) is ‘Leading the way to a healthier you and a healthier community through service, teaching, discovery and teamwork.' The goal of the MetroHealth Psychiatry residency program is to recruit, train and develop a highly qualified, diverse, and culturally competent workforce to serve the psychiatric needs of the community and prepare residents for future leadership in psychiatry. Our curriculum includes balanced training in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy by our invested and diverse faculty.
We are dedicated to train clinicians, scholars, educators, and future leaders! Beginning in October 2022 we will be doing so in two brand new, state of the art, hospitals – the Behavioral Health Hospital in Cleveland Heights and the Glick Center at our Main Campus. Residents will be able to work with patients in diverse subspeciality inpatient units at the Behavioral Health Hospital. They will also benefit from experiences in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Emergency Psychiatry at the Glick Center – home of MetroHealth’s Level 1 Trauma Center.
In addition to time spent in the hospital and inpatient settings, Residents have opportunities to work in community settings, giving them the opportunity to understand the biopsychosocial model of patient care. Our program helps foster professional growth in a multidisciplinary and inclusive setting. Residents are exposed to a wide variety of clinical experiences, giving them an opportunity to see a broad range of psychopathology, preparing them to be well-balanced, competent Psychiatrist. Our residents also participate in multiple presentations at national and local conferences, author book chapters and publish scholarly activities. Our mission is to improve health in the communities and region we serve. We do this by educating excellent clinicians and providing patient centered and high-quality care. This is an exciting time in medicine and our vision is to integrate telepsychiatry, integrated care and quality improvement in our curriculum.
Our diverse group of faculty are engaging mentors and emphasize individual educational opportunities to trainees in a supportive learning environment. But our biggest strength is our diverse, outstanding group of residents who are becoming expert psychiatrists, wonderful academicians, superb administrators, and exceptional clinicians!
I invite you to explore the Psychiatry Residency Program page to learn more about our excellent training program. We look forward to hearing from you and meeting you!
Sincerely,
Vice Chair of Education and Faculty Development
