Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency

The MetroHealth Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency is a fully accredited four-year training program for five categorical residents at each year of trainingEducation and supervision is provided by the committed faculty, all whom hold teaching positions at CWRU.

Training is provided in both low and high-risk obstetrics, benign gynecology, infertility, gynecologic oncology, surgical intensive care, family planning, and urogynecology. Training sites include MetroHealth Medical Center and its satellite ambulatory facilities, the Cleveland Veterans Administration, Planned Parenthood, and Preterm Women’s Clinic. Residents work closely with CWRU medical students, and are expected to develop teaching skills themselves.

MetroHealth’s dedicated faculty allows residents to profit from exposure to accomplished academicians and researchers whose expertise spans the full breadth of our specialty.  Benefits are apparent in clinical practice, research opportunities, and in expanded faculty participation in our core didactic education program. Learn more about our curriculum.

Relatively unique aspects of the program include our innovative continuity clinic, in which each resident maintains a weekly clinic working alongside a single faculty mentor for all four years of training. The program provides particular focus in care of special populations, such as LGBTQ patients, female veterans, immigrants, and substance abusers.

Graduates of this program are qualified to practice independently as obstetricians and gynecologists. Recent graduates have successfully obtained positions in highly selective subspecialty fellowships in Maternal Fetal Medicine, GYN Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, Family Planning, and Minimally Invasive Surgery.  Learn more about the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship.
