MFMU
The Maternal Fetal Medicine Units Network focuses on clinical questions in maternal fetal medicine and obstetrics, particularly with respect to the continuing problem of preterm birth. The Network provides an infrastructure to conduct multiple large studies simultaneously, in both a cost-effective and timely manner.
MetroHealth Medical Center is 1 of only 15 participating clinical centers that cover over 160,000 deliveries a year and are racially, ethnically, and geographically diverse, allowing study results to be generalizable to the U.S. population.
Results from MFMU Network studies have impacted clinical practice, both by finding treatments that prevent poor pregnancy outcomes and by stopping ineffective, costly, and potentially harmful therapies.
Clinical Research Unit
An NIH-funded, six-bed Clinical Research Unit (CRU) at Metro Health Medical Center, equipped with an exercise lab; body composition lab with hydrodensitometry and TOBEC (newborns) bioimpedance); and a general core laboratory is available to investigators. Technician and nursing support (research nurses) for funded and unfunded clinical studies
Small Animal Operating Facility and Animal Quarters
This animal research facility is housed on the grounds of MetroHealth Medical Center.
Research Group Mentorship
Monthly MFM Division meetings focus on proposed research projects in order to provide a forum for fellows to discuss their research projects, have group feedback, mentorship, and serve as a “think tank” for additional projects.
Research Day
Held annually at MetroHealth, this is an opportunity for fellows and residents to present their current research and receive feedback from internal Ob/Gyn department attendings.
