As the first autonomous internal medicine-pediatrics department in the country, we have a special enthusiasm for providing highly complex preventative primary care to patients with multiple medical problems, care for patients with complex and lifelong disabilities and care for LGTBQ+ patients throughout the lifespan. We are committed to our residents’ professional and personal development and foster a collaborative environment.
We seek a diverse group of residents who share our passion for providing healthcare to all persons regardless of their ability to pay. Our work is stronger when we bring together residents and faculty with wide-ranging life experiences, schooling, career pathways and interests both in and outside of medicine.
We value residents that are curious, flexible and adaptable; we see these qualities as critical for the team-based care that is a cornerstone of effective medical practice. We train physicians to be the doctors we want to work with – those with breadth of knowledge, depth of understanding, collaborative work styles and with an appreciation for the profound rewards of the profession of medicine.
We will have six openings in our intern class. Applications are holistically reviewed with a focus on rotation performance, service-learning, commitment to underserved communities, leadership roles, personal growth and reflection, and strength of letters of recommendation.
Because we are committed to your safety and the integrity of the residency application process, 100% of our recruitment this year will be virtual. We look forward to sharing everything our program has to offer through a variety of online resources and access to our residents and faculty.
All applicants are required to submit their applications through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). Interviews are by invitation only and are conducted from late October through January. We anticipate that most interviews will be scheduled by early November. All applications are carefully reviewed and decisions for interviews are based upon the composite qualifications of each applicant.
We require three or more letters of recommendation from physicians directly involved with the applicant. Letters do not need to come from department leadership. Letters should demonstrate character and must be submitted prior to our rank order meeting in early February.
USMLE and COMLEX: We require both Step/Level 1 and 2 scores by early February, unless that test is officially cancelled and the test cannot be taken. Osteopathic students are not required to take both COMLEX and USMLE.
Post-interview communication: Our residents, faculty and leadership are open to continued dialogue with applicants after the interview day, but it is not a requirement. We encourage you to continue further dialogue or ask questions about our residency program as you see fit.
