MetroHealth Medical Center offers a one-year ACGME Accredited EMS fellowship program. The program seeks to prepare future leaders in emergency medical services through the development of academic, clinical and administrative skills in emergency medical services. The fellowship will provide board-eligible emergency physicians with significant academic and hands-on exposure to all areas of emergency medical services.

The fellow will be expected to function clinically as an attending in the department and will be responsible for working two shifts per week. During non-clinical hours, the fellow will work closely with the fellowship director, associate medical directors and EMS physicians. A structured block curriculum has been created to maximize the fellow's learning experience.

The fellow will be expected to sit for the ABEM examination at the end of the fellowship.

We serve as Medical Direction for the largest city EMS services in Ohio, Cleveland EMS. The City of Cleveland Division of EMS goes on over 110,000 calls annually. The Fellow will gain maximum exposure to urban EMS serving a largely diverse population of residents, visitors and passersby.

Since 1982, Cleveland Metro Life Flight is regarded as one of the nation’s most prestigious aero-medical services. The Fellow will be a vital member and clinician on this team.

We serve as Medical Direction for rural fire departments, the National Parks Service and private ambulances which will allow the Fellow to gain insights into the unique and diverse situations rural EMS encounters.

We provide Medical Directorship to urban, rural, tactical, government, law enforcement and private entities. This maximum and diverse exposure will significantly strengthen the Fellow’s knowledge across all diverse functioning disciplines.

With oversight and access to thousands of EMS runs, the Fellow will have the luxury of participating on many quality/performance improvement committees including but not limited to: Trauma, Burns, STEMI and Stroke.

The Fellow will gain knowledge by engaging in local college EMT and Paramedic Initial Training Programs in addition to exposure to a robust continuing education calendar that serves thousands annually.

We provide medical coverage at many regional events throughout the year including but not limited to the Cleveland National Air Show, Towpath Marathon and many smaller events throughout the year that will provide the Fellow exposure to providing medical coverage at events.
