Implementation of Ambient Listening Technology for Clinical Documentation
This project piloted the use of ambient listening artificial intelligence (AI) to assist with clinical documentation in the outpatient setting. The technology passively captures clinician-patient conversations and generates a draft note within Epic. A multidisciplinary effort involving Clinical Informatics, Information Services, Compliance, and frontline clinicians, the pilot aimed to reduce after-hours documentation and improve provider experience. The team led vendor evaluation and integration, developed workflows and training materials, and established feedback mechanisms for ongoing refinement. Initial rollout focused on ambulatory specialties, with future expansion based on pilot outcomes.
