Welcome
Program Director Message
Dear Future Resident,
Welcome to the next step of your medical career! Our Psychiatry Residency Program provides an excellent clinical and academic training in a warm and collegial environment.
MetroHealth has a fully accredited General Psychiatry Residency Training program in Cuyahoga County’s safety net hospital. We also have a long-standing affiliation with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where all our medical staff hold faculty appointments.
The mission of the MetroHealth System Psychiatry Residency program is to recruit, train and develop a qualified and culturally competent workforce to not only serve the psychiatric needs of the community but also to prepare residents for future leadership in psychiatry. Guided by the mission of The MetroHealth System (MHS) 'Devoted to hope, health and humanity,' the Psychiatry Residency program is dedicated to train clinicians, scholars, educators, and future leaders in our state-of-the art Behavior Health Hospital (BHH) by immersing them in patient care in our diverse subspeciality inpatient units. MetroHealth's designation as a Level 1 Trauma Center offers residents comprehensive training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and the newly established Psychiatric Emergency Department provides them with an invaluable hands-on experience in Emergency Psychiatry.
Residents gain exposure to a wide variety of clinical experiences, allowing them to encounter a broad spectrum of psychopathology and preparing them to become well-rounded, competent psychiatrists. They also work in community settings, where they apply the biopsychosocial model of patient care in real-world contexts. The Psychiatry Residency program fosters professional growth in a multidisciplinary and inclusive environment, supporting residents in developing both clinical expertise and collaborative skills.
In addition to their time at the Behavioral Health Hospital and in outpatient clinics, our residents gain valuable experience in community settings, allowing them to develop a deeper understanding of the biopsychosocial model of patient care. Our program helps foster professional growth in a multidisciplinary, all-encompassing setting. Residents are exposed to a vast array of clinical experiences, giving them an opportunity to see a broad range of psychopathology, helping them grow to become well-balanced, competent Psychiatrists.
Our residents actively participate in presentations at national and local conferences, author book chapters, and contribute to scholarly publications. Our goal is to improve the health of the communities and region we serve by educating exceptional clinicians and delivering patient-centered, high-quality care. This is an exciting time in medicine, and our vision is to integrate telepsychiatry, collaborative care, and quality improvement into our curriculum.
I invite you to explore the Psychiatry Residency Program page to learn more about our excellent training program. We look forward to hearing from you and meeting you!
Sincerely,
Program Director, Psychiatry Residency
