Pathology Training Certificate Program

The Department of Pathology at MetroHealth System offers a one-year training program for a prospective pathology residency applicant who has completed medical school, to gain hands-on experience in pathology. This is an exciting opportunity for a future pathology resident who wish to establish basic skills in pathology, and laboratory medicine to prepare for residency.

This program allows the trainee to work closely with the pathology residents and fellows and under the supervision of attending (CWRU) faculty. Essential functions are likely to include grossing surgical specimens, performing autopsies, writing diagnostic reports, signing out cases with an attending pathologist, and assisting in clinical pathology consultations, including in transfusion medicine, microbiology, and laboratory medicine. Clinical informatics is emphasized and opportunities for research are available. Upon successful completion of the program, the trainee will receive a certificate of completion indicating that they have completed one year of training in pathology.

Eligibility:   Pathology residency applicants who have completed medical school and passed USMLE Steps 1 and 2.

Candidates should be authorized to work in the US. The program does not sponsor H1B or J1 visas.

Duration: One year July 1, 2024-June 30, 2025

Stipend: The trainee will earn $31,000, which may be taken as a monthly stipend during the training year or may be issued at the end of the year as an award.  Travel/conference funding is provided to support to present research performed during the training year at national meetings.
