Curriculum Highlights

  • Our curriculum provides residents with the best possible experience in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics
  • Residents are integrated into the categorical programs to have a progression of experience in each specialty throughout the four-year program
  • While on internal medicine, residents follow a 3+1 schedule with three weeks of rotations followed by one week of ambulatory care
  • While on pediatrics, residents have four-week modules
  • Residents switch between Internal Medicine and Pediatrics every two to three modules
  • Electives are offered at any of the five major Case Western Reserve University affiliates including: MetroHealth Medical Center, Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, The Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals of Cleveland, and The Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. Electives are also available through Akron Children’s Hospital
  • To expand diversity in resident experiences, there is a four-week subspecialty inpatient pediatrics rotation at Cleveland Clinic Children’s and a four-week PICU rotation and four-week pediatric emergency department rotation at Akron Children’s hospital
  • Outpatient care modules allow for the attainment of competence in ambulatory medicine
  • During the Med-Peds module, a senior resident is paired with a junior resident to work alongside Med-Peds physician at our community sites. Med-Peds specific experiences target resident development and competency with focused activities aimed at ensuring our graduates have skills related to financial wellness, quality improvement, personal wellness, and research skills
  • Residents can participate in the global health track and customize an elective in a resource-limited location
  • POCUS is available to be used on both inpatient and outpatient rotations and is frequently used in patient assessment
  • Training in multiple bedside procedures including subdermal birth control, pap smears and joint injections
  • Night float system to improve resident well-being and encourage autonomy early in residency
