About Me
I am Mah Rukh. I was born and raised in Pakistan, where I also completed medical school. I found my way to Family Medicine through something I have always valued deeply: connection. I love the privilege of meeting a patient as a stranger and, over time, becoming someone they trust. There is a quiet kind of fulfillment in seeing the same patient again and again—remembering the details of their life, watching things change, and being there through different seasons of their journey. For me, continuity of care is where medicine becomes deeply personal.
Outside of medicine, I am a homebody at heart—and unapologetically a couch potato. I love the feeling of returning home after a long day, settling into a cozy space, and losing myself in a Pakistani serial. But I am also endlessly curious. I like picking up new hobbies, discovering unfamiliar places, and following little sparks of curiosity wherever they lead. I suppose I like life best this way: with somewhere new to wander, something new to learn, and a warm, familiar place waiting for me at the end of the day.
One of the things I have appreciated most about MetroHealth is how supported I have felt while finding my footing as an intern. Starting residency is a learning curve in itself, and having senior residents and attendings who are always willing to answer a question, teach, or simply help you through a difficult day has made the transition feel much less daunting.
I also love the breadth and diversity of experiences that MetroHealth offers. Every rotation brings a different set of patients, challenges, and lessons, and caring for such a diverse population has expanded the way I think about medicine. There is always something new to learn, and often something unexpected.
What I value most is that I am growing not only into a more confident physician, but also into someone who feels increasingly at home in this new environment.
Cleveland is still a city I am getting to know, slowly and in between residency. I have not had the chance to explore much yet, but I have found a few places that already feel special to me.
Edgewater is one of my favorites. I love being near the lake and having somewhere to go when I need a little space from the hospital. The Cleveland Public Library has also become one of the places I enjoy—it has the kind of quiet, thoughtful atmosphere that makes me want to linger.
And, of course, food has been an important part of making a new city feel familiar. I have enjoyed Shah Halal Food, Cleveland Grill, and Saffron, especially because finding good halal food gives me a little taste of home.
I think I am still in the beginning of my Cleveland story. So far, it has mostly been hospital, home, and a few favorite places in between. But I am looking forward to slowly discovering more of the city and collecting the little places that will eventually become part of my life here.
