We are pleased to welcome you to the MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute and the Department of PM&R at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, in Cleveland, Ohio. 

Established in 1958, the MetroHealth/CWRU residency program is one of the oldest PM&R training programs in the nation. The MetroHealth PM&R residency program is accredited by the Accreditation Committee on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for a 21 resident categorical PM&R residency training Program.

Our graduates consistently perform excellent on the ABPMR Board Certification Exams (100% pass rate for Part I on a 5-year rolling cycle) and are successful in securing fellowship positions or finding practice opportunities in both private and academic settings.

Resident Life

Salary, GME Benefits and Contract

Allowed Time Away

  • 20 Vacation days annually
  • 10 days designated for sick, bereavement, personal, interview annually
  • 5 Educational/Conference days annually
  • 7 Major Hospital Holidays (Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day). 

Additional financial support

  • $2500 additional Education funds during residency
  • Additional financial support when presenting at a national conference: $1000 for conference costs and registration is covered

Call Schedule

  • In house 28-hour call during PGY 2 and PGY 3
    • 4-5 calls/month in PGY2, on 2 weekends a month
    • 1-2 calls/month in PGY3, on 0-1 weekends a month
    • Post-call days are protected time off
  • No call during PGY4
