Yes, although it is strongly encouraged to apply to the track that most aligns with your career goals. If your interests change over the course of the year, there is potential to change tracks. The reason for the tracks is to help ensure residents can secure their rotations of choice.

The teaching certificate is optional through the University of Findlay.

  • Every other weekend for the first quarter and then every fourth weekend for the rest of the year.
  • Two four-hour weekday shifts twice a month after the first quarter.
  • 1 major and 1 minor holiday.

  • Yes, during the Internal Medicine 2 rotation the resident will act as the primary preceptor for a pharmacy student. You will receive support and guidance from your residency preceptor. 
  • The residents are involved in the student development series for block students which entails short presentations on topics such as interview skills, CV review, etc.
  • Residents have the opportunity to mentor a pharmacy student rotating at MetroHealth.

Each resident will complete a large research project, a seminar, and a Drug Utilization Review (DUE) over the course of the year. Each resident is given a list of large research project ideas at the start of the year and then will rank the ideas based on interest. Based on the ranking and availability, the resident will work on this large research project to complete over the course of the year. There is statistician support for the large project.

  • No, the two tracks do not have the same application. In PhORCAS, you can select either acute care or ambulatory care.
  • You will rank the specific track you are applying for. 

  • Residents take minutes for our formulary and patient safety meetings.
  • Residents are involved in one of our residency subcommittees which includes: Residency Engagement and Social Media, Research, Interview, Block Student, and Presentation subcommittees.

  • There are 5 conferences the residents attend over the course of the year funded by the health system.
  • The conferences include but are not limited to the following: OSHP Annual Meeting, ASHP Midyear, Vizient at Midyear, ACCP Virtual Poster Symposium (pending acceptance) and OCCP Spring Meeting.
