Testimonials
“My AP/CP residency training at The MetroHealth System was a valuable experience that prepared me well for a career in pathology (both academic and private). The program provides strong exposure to diverse and complex cases in both anatomic and clinical pathology, with an excellent balance of autonomy and guidance. The faculty were consistently supportive, approachable, and committed to resident development and education. I also benefited from meaningful research opportunities and mentorship that encouraged academic curiosity and helped shape my professional goals. I am grateful for the supportive culture, teamwork, and mentorship at The MetroHealth System, all of which continue to influence my practice in my current role.”
Husam Jum’ah, MD
Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH
Hematopathology Fellowship, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN
"When I first came to Cleveland, it was an entirely new city for me, and I felt both excited and a little nervous as I began my pathology residency at MetroHealth Medical Center. At that time, my background in pathology was limited, but from the very beginning, the attendings were incredibly supportive. They guided me every step of the way and helped me build a strong foundation.
Throughout my residency, I always felt the program’s unwavering support — whether I was conducting research, presenting at national meetings, preparing for board exams, or applying for fellowships. The faculty and staff consistently encouraged and assisted us. I especially appreciated the academic and financial support provided for board preparation, which made a tremendous difference.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the program was the opportunity to teach medical students and, in my fourth year, to serve as a chief resident. These experiences helped me grow not only as a pathologist but also as a leader and mentor.Looking back, I am truly grateful for my time at MetroHealth. The program gave me the knowledge, confidence, and professional skills to become an independent physician — but, more importantly, it gave me a community that felt like family."

“My experience in the pathology residency program at MetroHealth medical center has been truly exceptional. The program offers a warm, supportive, and collegial environment where everyone from co-residents to faculty and leadership genuinely cares about your growth and success. The small size of the program allows for highly personalized training and close mentorship. Faculty maintain an open-door policy and are always willing to teach, discuss challenging cases, and provide guidance both professionally and personally. The program director and leadership are incredibly approachable, receptive to feedback, and continuously strive to make the program even better. Training here is well-rounded and comprehensive, preparing residents to excel in fellowship and beyond. The generous book and conference funds further reflect the program’s strong commitment to education and professional development. I feel truly grateful to have been part of such an outstanding and nurturing program.”
